Out & About
Chambou is located in the Vallée du Dropt. This area follows the River Dropt and crosses 3 departments - The Dordogne, Lot et Garonne & Gardonne.
The area is renound for its Wine Making, Bastide Towns and Châteaux. Local food products that are popular are the prunes and duck, which any visitor to the area must try.
The Local wine is called Côtes de Duras. The vineyards have been given one of the three Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée in the Lot et Garonne region, alongside Buzet and Côtes du Marmandais, and was one of the first to receive this award in 1937. There are many local wine producers, all offering wine tasting and tours.
The Bastide Towns and Châteaux are a must see, with Eymet and Monsegur's beautiful fortified bastide squares a great place to visit for lunch or a stroll around the markets . Or if you fancy something bigger, Château Bridoire is a must see. It is within 30 minute drive, and is great fun for all the family.
For those who want adventure, a canoe trip down the Dordogne is amazing. Choose one that includes Beynac and Roque Gageac, so that you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the dramatic rocks and gorges.
In the summer months Night Markets and Soirée Gourmands are great for all the family. The stalls are open until 11pm at night, so you can enjoy an evening eating the local food freshly cooked and trying a few glasses of wine whilst wandering around the stalls and maybe joining in the dancing to the live music.
The region that we have chosen to live is a wonderful place...... rich with history and alive with excitement, so please make the most of your stay.....get out there and explore !!!
